A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays provide a wealth of activities far superior than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on festive fare, and using deep breathing to refrain from arguing with family members. It is wished you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements emerged during the break, and if you missed a few, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Truly the biggest piece of news, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter further production. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which might be a positive development. However, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
