Former NFL Star Antonio Brown Files Innocent Response in Murder Attempt Case
One-time NFL player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to confront an murder attempt accusation stemming from a shooting that occurred in May, as his counsel entering a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Correctional documents in Essex County, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was discharged on Tuesday early for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was taken after being apprehended in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that he has earlier filed a formal not guilty response to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday early for a bail hearing, Eiglarsh stated.
Based on his arrest document, Brown is charged of taking a firearm from a security staffer after a celebrity match event in May and discharging a couple of rounds at a individual he had fought with earlier. The reported individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that one of the bullets grazed his throat.
Eiglarsh said that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The measures he was forced to take were purely in self-defense against the alleged victim’s hostile actions. Brown was targeted that time and acted within his legal privilege to defend himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not right away arrested because originally officers did not consider Nantambu as a target. It wasn’t until later in May that Nantambu gave a complete testimony about the incident to authorities and named Brown as the gunman, the report says.
According to his online content, Brown had been staying in the city of Dubai for a number of months. In a update after the incident, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “attacked by several persons who tried to rob my valuables and inflict physical damage to me.”
A second-degree murder attempt charge in the state of Florida carries a highest 15-year prison sentence and up to a $10,000 fine in the instance of a finding.
Brown has faced several judicial challenges over the period. He before had been accused of assault of a truck employee, several family violence accusations, inability to pay child support and other occurrences.
In a 2021 contest with the Buccaneers against the opponents, Brown stripped off his uniform, shoulder pads and gloves and exited the arena, leading to his release by the franchise and practically concluding his football journey.
Brown, who spent twelve years in the NFL, was an top-tier wide receiver who spent the majority of his time with the Steelers. Throughout his career, Brown had over 900 receptions for more than twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one yards, the twenty-eighth greatest of history. He was a seven-time prestigious choice.
