Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Home Fan Atmosphere Despite Dominant Win Over Wales.
The England head coach voiced his sadness that the England team did not enjoy more backing from the Wembley crowd during their decisive 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday evening.
The manager was pleased to see his side continue their winning momentum, with strikes from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the initial stages deciding the contest. Yet, he was unhappy with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“We had limited sessions to prepare against a drilled team and we did very well,” Tuchel stated. “It could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the additional goals. There was little noise. There was no any energy from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s sad because the squad warranted more support today.”
“I maintain my words. There’s nothing more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more backing in periods where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to recharge, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Display
Apart from risking a dispute among supporters, the manager also caused a stir by omitting Bellingham and Foden from his squad. Yet the move was backed up by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and getting his first international goal.
“That’s his style,” the head coach said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is competing for his place.”
Bellamy Hopes for Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who host a strong Belgian side in a key World Cup qualifier on next week, improve after their awful first-half display.
“This is why I scheduled this friendly,” the manager commented. “I need to see our current level. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with motivation.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was taken off at half-time after colliding with a post and is a concern when the national team face Latvia in Riga in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
